KUALA LUMPUR: Insurance Services Malaysia Bhd (ISM) and the Malaysian Chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) will host the inaugural Insurance & Takaful Fraud Conference – Identifying and Preventing Fraud here on Jan 14 and 15.

The conference, which is expected to be attended by more than 150 senior executives from the insurance and takaful sectors, will have two prominent keynote speakers – Dr Basel Hindawi and Datuk Seri Megat Najmudin Megat Khas, ISM said in a statement.

Dr Hindawi is president of the International Association of Insurance Fraud Agencies (IAIFA) while Megat Najmudin is president of the Malaysian Institute of Corporate Governance (MICG).

Dr Hindawi, who is also director-general of the Insurance Commission of Jordan, chair of the Arab Forum of Insurance Regulatory Commissions and member of the executive committee of the International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS), will deliver a keynote address on Preventing and Combating Insurance Fraud Globally.

Megat Najmudin, who is also president of the Federation of Public Listed Companies, will focus his keynote address on Fraud and Corporate Governance – Setting the Tone from the Top.

A number of experts in fraud investigation, forensics, law, insurance and takaful will deliver papers and conduct workshops in various areas of internal and external fraud against insurance and takaful companies, ISM said.

Carl Rajendram, ISM chief executive officer, noting that Malaysia has developed into an international financial centre especially for Islamic finance and takaful, said: “As we open our doors to the international financial world, it is critical that we equip ourselves with the necessary skills to prevent financial fraud, money laundering and terrorism financing.”
