Bleak economic outlook will not derail Takaful Ikhlas’ RM520 million sales target

The bleak global economic outlook will not derail the RM520 million sales target set by Takaful Ikhlas Sdn Bhd, a Syariah-based insurance company, for the financial year ending March 2009.

Chief Executive officer Syed Moheed Syed Kamarulzaman said the target was attainable following the aggressive campaign by the company to promote the syariah insurance scheme among the people.

Although the global economic slowdown has taken a toll on the country’s economic growth, it will not be a stumbling block for Takaful Ikhlas to realise its target, he told Bernama after an Aidiladha programme at Saidina Abu Bakar Mosque in Kuala Perlis Wednesday.

In the last financial year ended 2008, Takaful Ikhlas’ turnover was RM428 million.

Syed Moheed said he was confident of enlisting one million policyholders by March next year, with 900,000 already signed up by September.

He intends to expand his business by opening more branches nationwide including in Perlis.

Currently, Takaful Ikhlas has two customer service centres in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor and regional offices in Kuala Lumpur, Kota Baharu, Sungai Petani, Johor Baharu, Kuching, Melaka, Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan, Ipoh and Putrajaya.

At the event, Syed Moheed handed a cheque for RM20,000 to the Tuanku Syed Putra Foundation through Perlis Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Md Isa Sabu, who is also the foundation’s deputy chairman.

The charity foundation is set up to help the poor and needy students in Perlis.
