Industri takaful dan takaful semula terus mempamerkan pertumbuhan yang pantas dan kini semakin mendapat pengiktirafan sebagai satu komponen utama sistem kewangan Islam secara keseluruhannya.
Bagaimanapun, Ketua Eksekutif Institut Perbankan dan Kewangan Islam Malaysia, Datuk Dr Adnan Alias, berkata perniagaan takaful semula di Malaysia masih terhad dari segi kapasiti.
Sehubungan itu, industri itu mempunyai peluang besar untuk berkembang lagi.
“Dari segi takaful, pertumbuhannya amat menggalakkan manakala takaful semula sedang mengikuti rapat, walaupun industri itu diperkenalkan lewat,” kata Adnan pada taklimat Persidangan Kewangan Islam Antarabangsa 2008 keenam di Kuala Lumpur, baru-baru.

The takaful industry grew strongly in the first six months with combined takaful contribution income increasing 23.0% to RM1.4bil against the same period last year.
This accounted for 8.5% of total premiums of the insurance industry as at end-June.
In the family takaful sector, new business contributions recorded stronger growth of 98.1% to RM1bil, driven by the expansion in investment-linked products following new product launches early this year, and high growth in endowment products recorded by the new takaful operators.

Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Bhd aims to capture 33 percent market share of Takaful plan for government housing loan with the set up of its new Treasury Business Centre here in Putrajaya.
Group managing director of Takaful Malaysia, Datuk Mohamed Hassan Kamil said with the opening of its new centre at the Ministry of Finance Complex in Putrajaya, services will be further enhanced to cater to the needs of customers who are mainly civil servants.
The centre which was launched today will commence operations tomorrow.
