Takaful Malaysia eyes double-digit growth

Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Bhd, the country’s pioneer Islamic insurer, is targeting double digit-growth in new business this year driven by its family and group segments.

Group managing director Datuk Mohamed Hassan Kamil said the company aims to maintain its lead in the group family takaful business, capturing 40% of the market sector, and 20% of the combined family and general takaful business.

Takaful Ikhlas Sdn Bhd, the Islamic insurance arm of MNRB Holdings Bhd, is eyeing to grow its total combined gross contributions by 20% to RM900 million for the current financial year ending March 31, 2014 (FY14) from about RM751 million a year ago.

Its president and CEO Ab Latiff Abu Bakar (pix) said the takaful operator is putting in strategies to improve its ranking a notch up in two years. Takaful Ikhlas’ market share is currently at 12% based on gross contribution.

Takaful Malaysia still on the hunt for strategic partner in Indonesia

Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Bhd remains in the hunt for a strategic partner in Indonesia to help expand its distribution network there, said its top executive.

The takaful operator was in talks to sell a stake or issue new shares in its Indonesian unit to a local partner last year, but the deal fell through.

“It did not work out,” Takaful Malaysia Group managing director Mohammad Hassan Kamil told SunBiz in an interview.
